The Surrounds
Kirkendale is set in a lush garden, conveniently located in
St Georges a leafy suburb at base of the Adelaide foothills, just 10mins (5km) from the
city centre. An ideal base for discovering Adelaide and the nearby hills.
Location: 1.7km from corner Portrush and Mt Barker Roads (Princes Highway). Five kms or
ten minutes south east of Adelaide. Buses 143 and 145 run regularly to the city.
Adelaide, home of the world famous bi-annual Festival of Arts and Womadelaide, offers
the visitor a treasure trove of restaurants, bistros and sidewalk cafes. Take a walk
through the botanical gardens or one of the many parks and gardens on a balmy summer
evening or sip a glass of wine while enjoying the sunset from Mount Lofty. Relax on
white sandy beaches just minutes from the city by historic tram.
The Mount Lofty Ranges, historic Hahndorf, Cleland Wildlife Park are all within a short
drive. The Barossa Valley and the Southern Vale districts, two of Australia’s premier
wine regions are both comfortable day trips. The Fleurieu Peninsula offers bushwalking
or the chance to explore long deserted beaches. In the autumn, winter and spring whale
watching is a popular pastime.
Jenny and Steve’s interests include sports, the arts, history and gardening, they are
both extremely well-travelled and this is reflected in their gracious but unobtrusive
hosting. Steve speaks French, German and a smattering of Dutch.
